In an effort to insure that every resident of the Square is informed about the opportunity to serve on the HPOZ Board, we have discussed the best way to proceed since such an election is NOT provided for in our By-laws. The Board is suggesting that we follow the same nomination & voting procedure that has worked previously. It follows:
- Every resident of LaFayette Square is eligible to seek the appointment via communication from LSA to Councilman Ludlow. Self-nomination is acceptable and encouraged. Each aspirant can speak for no more than one minute at the meeting (see agenda) If you desire to serve and cannot be present, another resident of LaFayette Square may represent you.
- Every resident of LaFayette Square is eligible to vote. No proxy voting.
- Voting by ballot will begin at 6:45 PM and conclude at 7:45 PM
- The President will appoint a Balloting Committee who will oversee the balloting, count the ballots, and give the results to the President before the conclusion of the meeting. The results will be announced prior to the adjournment of the meeting.
- A candidate may solicit votes before and during the meeting, as long as no disruption results. Any written material must be retrieved and disposed of at the meeting site.
The current HPOZ Board members are:
- Joe Williams, Chair (323) 549-0850 (appointed by the Mayor)
- Kevin Brown (323) 934-4254 (appointed by Cultural Heritage Commission)
- Mark Wilson (323) 936-6703 (Elected by the Board)
- Drake Dillard, architect (323) 298-0534 (appointed by Cultural Heritage Commission)
- VACANCY (appointed by the Councilman)
Each board member shall serve a term of four (4) years. If a term expires without re-appointment, that member should continue to serve until the appointing authority makes a decision.
NOTES: The HPOZ board slot is to be filled by appointment from the councilman. He has responded to the LSA board’s request for input by asking us to recommend a person. All candidates’ names will be submitted, in the order of votes received.
